WAS YOUR HOUSE BOMBED DURING WWII?

This is an interesting bomb census which explores
the London Blitz from 7th October 1940 to 6th June 1941.

Have a look at the Colliers Wood area
was your street or house bombed?

THE WIMBLEDON WAY HERITAGE WALK

This is an interesting trek for anyone interested in
the history of SW19.

The Wimbledon Way is a heritage walk extending
from Wimbledon town centre, through Wimbledon
Village and on to the Common and the All England
Lawn Tennis Club and Tennis Museum.

It connects Wimbledon’s fantastic assets – its rich
history, theatres, listed buildings, influential people,
open spaces and sport.

THE TOWER (SEPTEMBER 2016)

The Tower is taking shape, the cranes are gone. I must admit I
kind of like it. Well, whatever the case it looks a 1000 times better
than it did!

COLLIERS WOOD WALKING AND RUNNING GROUPS

Once a month on a Sunday morning the Colliers
Wood Walking Group meets outside the library and
visits places of interest.

For further details call Rita on 0208 540 1560.

And if you're into RUNNING join the
Colliers Wood Runners facebook page to meet
like minded people and organise runs.

They say:

"Colliers Wood Runners are a friendly group of
local people who want to get out and do some exercise
on a Saturday morning.

We cater for all abilities and ages, no one is left behind.
We run for about 45-50 minutes each Saturday,
usually covering 5-7kms depending on fitness.

The usual route is from the High Street and up into Morden Hall Park.  Heading up to Phipps Bridge tram stop and around the loop at the top  of the park. Experienced runners do 2 or 3 loops and others will take  a rest stop, before we all turn back to Coffee in the Wood for a  well earned coffee (and cake).

EVERYONE is welcome! Some of us are training for running
events (such as half marathons) and others are just getting out
for a weekly run. Come and join us – outside
Coffee In The Wood 10am every Saturday."

Check out this amazing online archive of old photos
compiled for the Merton Memories project.

Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund it tells 100 years
of the borough's history. 26 volunteers aged between
15 and 70 + spent  last year scanning and cataloging
15 000 photos owned by the council.

WAR AND PEACE AND THE PRICE OF CAT-FISH

Here's something interesting for history buff's.
Wartime Wimbledon has come to life thanks to a
blog which details what it was like to live
in the borough during World War II.

Tony French has been blogging an entry daily
from his uncle Fred French’s diaries,
detailing his experience of the
London Blitz.

The blog describes the fire guard duties, being bombed
and the daily activities of Fred French when
he lived at Chestnut Road, Raynes Park.

Read all about Fred's adventures here
